CARNIVAL Parade schools

CARNIVAL PARADE
The Sambadrome or Samba Parade Avenue is where the samba schools parade over Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. Built in 120 days, between October, 1983, and February of the following year, the Sambadrome was designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer. The Avenue is 700 meters long, and 13.5 meters wide. The total area of the complex is 85 thousand square meters, and has a capacity for over 60 thousand people in the stands, boxes, and floor level chairs. Right at the end of the avenue, is the Praça da Apoteose, where the samba schools end their parades. It is 10.4 thousand square meters and is also used for shows and performances featuring national and international acts.

A City-wide explosion of typically Carioca merry-making with the greatest street celebration in Brazil. A party for the entire town, interliking thrills, creativeness, colors, music, costumes and plenty of dreams. The sheer scope of Carnival involves art, music, literature, magic and above all, life itself.

From the period of Carnival, Rio de Janeiro once again plunges into the greatest theme-party on earth, with many pre-carnival warm-up events, and an unforgettable wrap-up on the Champion Saturday, at the Sambadrome downtown. The Spectacle of the famous Samba School Parade with all the contagious gaiety of its beauty and enthusiasm, with that irresistible beat, makes Carnival quite unforgettable.
