NASDAQ Opening Bell Ceremony

On August 13th, SHPE National President Manny Hernandez,  SHPE-NYC President Edward Montenegro, and SHPE-NYC Communications Vice President Luis Miranda were invited to join the Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC) at the NASDAQ opening bell ceremony. HITEC was founded by senior Hispanic IT executives who have built outstanding careers in IT, but realized that there were far too few Hispanic in the IT leadership role. SHPE-NYC will continue to partner with HITEC to strengthen the pipeline of Hispanics from the professional to the executive ranks.



On the eve of the opening bell ceremony, a unique executive level SHPE/HITEC networking reception was held at the New York Times building. The evening included remarks from

- Rosa Ramos-Kwok, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley
- Carlos Fuentes, CIO Mitsui Sumitomo

- Manny Hernandez, SHPE National President
- Cris Conde, CEO of Sungard

 

SHPE STAR Award Recipient - Leony Rosa
We would like to recognize and congratulate Leony Rosa, SHPE-NYC Finance Vice President, as he has been chosen as the recipient of 2010 SHPE Professional Role Model STAR award! This award is presented to an outstanding SHPE professional member who has provided selfless and outstanding contributions to his or her SHPE professional chapter and the Hispanic community.




Leony Rosa is a wireless test engineer for Northrop Grumman’s Information Systems sector. In this role, his responsibilities include development, testing and verification of several projects and applications related to homeland security in the New York City region. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York (CCNY). At CCNY, he joined the Latin American Engineering Student Association, a student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (LAESA-SHPE).

Leony maintains an active role in SHPE-NYC and in the community. He is currently the Finance Vice President, and has served in other capacities on the executive board. He volunteers his time to speak to aspiring engineers at the college level, high school students considering technology fields, and other professionals in a variety of subjects. Thank you and congratulations again to Leony.

Goldman Sachs Undergraduate Engineers Summit
Goldman Sachs invites SHPE students to apply to the Goldman Sachs Undergraduate Engineers Summit. The event is a half day educational program for SHPE student members that are interested in learning about careers at the firm. The program will include an overview of the firm’s history and culture, career workshops and networking opportunities with Goldman Sachs professionals.
