Hello SHPE-NYC Membership,
SHPE-NYC has been increasing its efforts in the pre-college space for several years now. The overall goal is to give back to the Latino community, and increase the number of Latinos pursuing degrees in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Our efforts include raising awareness of STEM education, career paths and opportunities. We connect high school students with professionals and college students through networking events, college tours, technical competitions, and leadership development conferences throughout the year. We advise the pre-college education community on the importance of students taking the proper courses prior to pursuing a STEM major in higher education.
We are looking for professionals that share a passion for encouraging the younger Latino generation to consider a STEM degree and helping them excel at it. Opportunities range from speaking to a classroom for 45 minutes, to leading a small project. Please read below for a comprehensive list of events and opportunities and respond to precollege@shpe-nyc.org if you are interested or have any questions.
