"An important book of rare photographs by English photographer & painter Keith Baugh taken in Harlem and the South Bronx during the ‘Golden Era’ of New York Subway Graffiti – an explosion of visual imagery that captures the very birth of the masterpiece, tags evolving into elaborate pieces. The photographs feature some of the earliest work by 150 of the ‘Old School Kings’ of New York Subway Graffiti including pioneer writers Ale-One, All-Jive, Blade, Chico, Cliff, Comet, Crachee, Doc Cool, Hondo, In, Jester, Kool Kevin, King, Lava, Mono, Riff, Roach, Rox, Ruben, Silver Tips, Staff 161, Stim One, Super Strut, Tracy 168 & Vamm."

A few years ago Tizer One told me about an Art Teacher he had met in a little town near Wales who had all these photos of 1970's New York Subway Graffiti. I thought he was either exaggerating or the guy was lying... I arranged to meet him, Tizer wasn't exaggerating and Keith definitely wasn't lying and could not believe what I was seeing... Photos of Blade, Vamm, Tracy and the cream of the pioneers, Top to Bottoms, Characters, things I had never seen, in full colour. The photos were all taken were in Slide film so it looked like they were taken yesterday. The most incredible thing was the "Keith Baugh" window down some writers had done for him!

Keith Baugh is a great guy, and his story is almost as interesting as the photos. The idea of a British guy standing around in New York documenting the then Underground emerging culture in the early 70's is amazing. He put this book out purely because he wanted the work to be seen, and wanted the artists to get a chance to get some light. He has self published it, so please support!!! This is a book that comes around once in a lifetime, its the Shoe Box motherload!
