Crips And Bloods: Made In America Documantary By Stacey Peralta

"I remember interviewing Skeeter Rabbit (R.I.P.) from The Electric Boogaloos, he was a very wise and cool guy. He was the first person that really explained the rise of the Crip and Blood dynamic to me. He said that after the Black Community Leadership fell apart through Government actions, Drugs and infighting, the space left was filled by Gangs populated by the Children of the Revolutionary movement. He also talked about the Southern Rascism that followed the Black Diaspora from the South. I was amazed, because I had never heard that side of the story, and it really makes you think about it in a different angle. The quote from the O.G. Blood member in the film, that many people in L.A. are living in "suspended animation", has a whole other meaning.

Unless you spend any time in L.A., or the Southern West Coast in general, it is really hard to understand how intrenched the Gang situation is, and that includes Gangs of all races. Crips And Bloods: Made In America is an excellent look at that situation by Stacey Peralta of Skateboard Company Powell Peralta." - Shucks One

Connections between "The Real" Freeway Ricky Ross, the Bush Administration, and the Crack Cocaine Epidemic

Now that all your favorite Rappers are Untouchable Drug Lords, here is some knowledge on real Drug Lords. This is in no way condoning Ex-Drug Lords. Behold the Robin Hood syndrome? Parental Discretion is advised

"The drug kingpin Freeway Ricky Ross became known as The Wal-Mart of Crack in Los Angeles during the 1980s by becoming the largest supplier of drugs in the area, without his initially knowing that his source of drugs was a CIA agent connected to the Iran-Contra scandal associated with George Bush and Ronald Reagan." - from here

RUBBLE KINGS: NEW YORK CITY STREET GANGS AND THE MUSIC THAT BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER

Puerto Rock Power!

Shan Nicholson, Kool Skool Family and director of Downtown Calling, is just putting the finishing touches on his new documentary on New York City gangs called Rubble Kings.

RUBBLE KINGS TRAILER from shan nicholson on Vimeo.

"From 1968 to 1975, gangs ruled New York City. Beyond the idealistic hopes of the civil rightsnmovement lay a unfocused rage. Neither law enforcement nor social agency could end the escalating bloodshed. Peace came only through the most unlikely and courageous of events that would change the world for generations to come by giving birth to hip-hop culture."
