Andy Samberg & TLI promoting Vodka (yes they're still together)

So all of TLI (Andy, Jorma, and Akiva) are still together, even though Jorma has left SNL. My guess is Jorma is going to be working on editing this vodka gig (as well Akiva), and that he's also working hard on their second album. I think he's come to realize that there is a place for TLI with money and creative control outside of SNL, and he's going for it.

Andy has a great quote here:

Andy Samberg [said,] "Anyone who's seen our videos knows we're fancy guys, so we said yes. And they also gave us a bunch of ROKK Vodka, which we enjoy drinking with our mouths."

Thanks to Anony for this scoop...

ROKK Vodka Appoints The Lonely Island as 'Creative Directors,' Showing Even Award Winning Vodka Shouldn't Take Itself Too Seriously

Comedy Troupe Behind Internet Sensation "I'm On a Boat" To Develop Digital Content for Diageo's New Swedish Vodka

NORWALK, Conn., Nov. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- ROKK Vodka, imported Swedish vodka from Diageo, announced today that they have selected The Lonely Island, the creative minds behind the Grammy-nominated track and viral video "I'm On a Boat," as "Creative Directors" for the brand. In this role, The Dudes – comprised of comedians Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone – will be responsible for the brand's consumer engagement, which includes creating digital material to market the brand and help introduce ROKK, the premium priced, freeze filtered vodka.

"Most people ask us to just make videos, but Diageo asked us to be Creative Directors, which sounded fancier," said Lonely Island member and actor, Andy Samberg. "Anyone who's seen our videos knows we're fancy guys, so we said yes. And they also gave us a bunch of ROKK Vodka, which we enjoy drinking with our mouths."

A brand inspired by the bold spirit of the Vikings, ROKK stands out from other vodkas on the shelf and has specifically chosen The Lonely Island to help bring that bold and edgy personality to consumers. As Creative Directors, they will have the freedom to creatively market ROKK, including the development of original content and videos that will engage consumers in a humorous manner, while still adhering to the brand's commitment to social responsibility.

"We could have chosen to work with a traditional advertising agency, but wanted to do something totally different when it came to marketing ROKK Vodka," said Adam Rosen, Brand Director - Vodka. "We had a list of one when it came to who we wanted to lead ROKK Vodka's creative team, and couldn't be more excited that The Lonely Island said 'yes!' Working with Jorma, Akiva and Andy has been amazing, as they are not only ridiculously talented, but they also know exactly what ROKK Vodka's consumers want to see."

The Lonely Island's first creative execution will be a ROKK video short, slated to debut in late November on the ROKK Vodka Facebook page, with additional content being unveiled throughout the year.

Andy Samberg might be in the next Jack Johnson music video

Jack Johnson already talked to Andy and it's on...

There is the good-humored middle ground, of course. The "Saturday Night Live" on-point spoof "The Mellow Show," hosted by a Johnson (played by Andy Samberg) who randomly gives shout-outs to vegan cookies, cargo shorts and Ultimate Frisbee.

"Yeah, it's pretty funny," Johnson said of the "SNL" skit. "I was just talking with Andy Samberg the other day for the first time ever. Hopefully it will work out, but Andy and I are going to shoot a video for the next single on the record, "At or With Me." I want to leave the video a surprise, because it's a little unexpected, but I'm going to kick his (expletive) pretty hard."

It's interesting that Jack doesn't want to give it away, but he already told us the gag and the song! What else is there to not give away? =^)

It's also interesting to note that Andy finally met Jack Johnson!

Andy Samberg's Paul the Octopus helps bring in the ESPY ratings!

Well, Seth and Will Ferrell helped too...

The Saturday Night Live-flavored ESPY Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers and featuring current SNL cast member Andy Samberg and alum Will Ferrell, averaged 2.6 million viewers from 9-11:30 PM last night. The awards' 18-49 audience was 1.7 million, which is up 30% from last year, when the ESPYs ran on Sunday.

Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd also helped:

In other SNL nomination news, Kristen Wiig gets nominated again as supporting actress, and Betty White and Tina Fey were nominated for guest actress (Tina's third SNL nomination after leaving the show, and she's had one win; she was never nominated on the show). SNL was also nominated for its Comedy Series category, and it was nominated for the special, "Saturday Night Live In The 2000s: Time And
Again." (Plus lighting, makeup, writing, and technical direction. So Jorma and Akiva get writing nominations again.)

Once again, Andy was the only SNL dude-actor nominated. This just goes to show SNL's progress in female comedy. Another sign of that is that three of the Comedy Lead Acresses were from SNL... Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Not sure why "On the Ground" wasn't nominated, but I suppose it wasn't the best song musically (similar to everything out there), and it wasn't the best song lyrically (doesn't even rhyme, and isn't super creative or artsy). Plus I'm On a Boat and Ji#* In my Pants weren't nominated last year (only Mother Lover was), so just cuz a song is popular or well liked doesn't mean the Emmy judges prefer it.

Thanks to Rachel for the scoop!

By the way, that Shy Ronnie album cover is fan made; there's no Shy Ronnie album.

Tom Cruise and Azazi can't beat Andy Samberg and Eminem

Despite including appearances by much of the cast from the night's big winner -- "Twilight: New Moon" -- and the much-hyped debuts of trailers for the latest installments of both the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" film franchises, ratings for Sunday's MTV Movie Awards were off from last year.

On [MTV], viewership was off by a lot, dropping from 5.3 million to 4.6 million...

Last year's awardscast, hosted by "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg, was notable for the staged meeting between Sacha Baron Cohen's butt and Eminem's face, which prompted a walkout by the latter. Each had a project to promote -- the actor's new movie, "Bruno," and the rapper's latest disc, "Relapse" -- and the resulting controversy spiked interest in them.

This year, Tom Cruise of the upcoming flick "Knight and Day" hoped for a boost by appearing throughout the awards in a running gag reprising his "Tropic Thunder" character Les Grossman. He opened the show, was featured in promos with "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, and did a dance-off with Jennifer Lopez.

Host Aziz Ansari ("Parks and Recreation") presided over a two-hour telecast that featured upward of 100 profanities...

Was Aziz Ansari's MTV Movie Awards opening better than Andy Samberg's?

From MTV...

MTV Movie Awards 2010: Relive Robert Pattinson And Taylor Lautner As Les Grossman's 'Bad A** Cops'

We started out with Les Grossman, whose Tom Cruise cameo might have gone over a few of your heads. If you have no idea why the A-list movie star was dressed up like an overweight ugly bearded producer, then do yourself a favor and go out and rent "Tropic Thunder." Then cross your fingers that Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson actually star in a movie called "Bad-A** Cops." But never grow handle bar mustaches. Either way, the film would probably make at least a billion domestic.

Hey, there's Bill Hader!

The intro video went on to include some of the biggest films coming out — Michael Cera ("Scott Pilgrim vs. The World") was seen trading in his life as an actor to be a book end, Jaden Smith kicked Les's a** in a karate fight while his dad Will looked on in approval — and then Les sent us on with a show.

We must say, as much as we love Andy Samberg, Aziz Ansari's opening monologue was about a billion times better than last year's. First he commented on the 3-D phenomenon (making the astute assumption that the 3-D movies really don't look as realistic as, say, "Julie & Julia"), he moved on to "Twilight" because, since it's MTV, of course "Twilight" is the biggest movie of the year...

He briefly summarized the first two films — like anyone in the audience didn't know what it was about — before making fun of the "New Moon" cliffhanger. As he astutely pointed out, it wasn't much of a cliffhanger because OF COURSE Bella was going to say yes! Let's just say we got some pretty hilarious reaction shots from Kristen, Taylor and Rob in the audience during that.

===================

I've got to admit that Aziz's standup was better than Andy's, because let's face it, that's Aziz's thing. But if you compare that to the sweet song that Andy opened with, then you're comparing apples to oranges, and I'd give it to Andy, honestly.

Plus I'd give the movie opening to Andy as well. Tom Cruise was entertaining, but it's a different kind of humor.

Andy Samberg isn't hosting the MTV Movie Awards this year

Aziz Ansari is. Aziz is Andy's friend. Andy was on his Human Giant and Parks and Recreation shows. Plus Aziz was in Andy's Star Trek spoof last year when Andy hosted the show.

The 19th annual MTV Movie Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 6.

We'll let you know more if we find out why this decision was made.

Speaking of Aziz, though, he should host SNL!
