SHPE-NYC is actively working with our local college SHPE chapters to secure speakers for their upcoming meetings and workshops. We are reaching out to our friends and members for support. SHPE Region 4: Regional Leadership Development Conference

SHPE-NYC executive board members will be leading workshops at this year's RLDC. Workshops include: "Value of a SHPE Career" and "Strategies of a SHPE Professional Chapter."
This year the conference will be a unique experience for those interested in developing leadership skills in technical environments. T

SHPE-NYC Networking Workshop for Columbia University Student Chapter

SHPE-NYC executive board members will hold a workshop for members of the Columbia University Student Chapter on Monday, April 12th. The workshop will focus on professional networking skills for college students.

SHPE-NYC will sponsor its first networking event of the season. We have, as our guest speaker, one of the most influential professional development Latino speakers in the country: Joe Santana. Joe is a corporate leader and co-authored Manage IT, a guide to making the jump from IT to Management. He has held many positions of leadership throughout his career and will share some of his experience with us focusing on the value of Professional Networking.

This event will be held on Thursday, February 25th, 2010 at 6:00pm at Bowery Wine Company - 13 East 1st Street,
New York, NY 10003.
Speaker will begin promptly at 6:30pm and a live Jazz band will follow networking event. Please RSVP here.

IBM Latina Executive Maria Azua Webcast


Latinos at IBM and members of SHPE Region 4 and SHPE-NYC will host a special live Webcast with Maria Azua, Vice President of Cloud Computing Enablement at IBM. This special webcast will introduce Hispanics and other people of color to a woman whose illustrious career in technology began after arriving to the U.S. from Puerto Rico.
Maria Azua's interview will be broadcasted live on Livestream.com/ibmbusinesscenter2 from the main auditorium in IBM Somers, NY.

SHPE Brooklyn Tech High School - Thursday 01/14

The Brooklyn Tech High School chapter of SHPE will be having a meeting this Thursday at 3pm. The meeting is the first of a 7-part series dubbed "Experiments in Engineering." This meeting will focus on Aerodynamics. If anybody is interested in attending please email Francisco Tejada at precollege@shpe-nyc.org by close of business on Wednesday, January 13th.

The student chapter of SHPE at Manhattan College will be having a general meeting on February 10th. The meeting is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM and the chapter has asked us to volunteer a professional speaker. Please join us in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month as we present a live interview with Chairman Emeritus, IBM Academy of Technology, Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger.
Dr. Wladawsky-Berger, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, began his career in technology after arriving to the U.S. from Cuba in his teenage years. Dr. Wladawsky-Berger served as co-chair of President Obama’s Technology, Innovation, & Government Reform (TIGR) transition policy group focusing on innovation and government. Dr. Wladawsky-Berger retired from IBM in 2007 after 37 years with the company.
