The Icon of St Giles of Provence, Hermit....

A tortuous journey to Walsingham this morning to take possession of the Icon of St Giles that we have commissioned from Brother Leon of the Brotherhood of St Seraphim in Walsingham. Images of the Icon during its "being written" can be seen below.
While with Brother Leon I showed him a hand-painted icon belonging to a parishioner which had developed white marks in places. I had been asked to obtain his advice. He took one look at it and said, "Oh yes, it's mould," before spitting on his fingers and rubbing into the affected areas. Apparently, "they always say that spittle is good for mould." Well it certainly worked.

It was also good to spend time in the Holy House and to light candles for various folk and the parishes. There were very few people about and all was peaceful. In the Shrine grounds there were pilgrims from Oldham being led in the Stations of the Cross by Fr Paul Plumpton. A beautiful morning crowned it all.

This afternoon, on my way back to the parishes I called in at our architect's (Mr Julian Limentani) office in order that he could look at the Icon and make arrangements for it to be mounted in the north aisle recess.

Before returning home I took the small Icon of our Lady back to its owner and explained what Brother Leon had done and said about spittle. There was one overjoyed person who previously thinking that something spiritually important might no longer be of use, finds that something as simple and God-created as spit can work wonders - but didn't the Lord Jesus know this.........?
