Little Penny. 1¢

Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway is one of the greatest ballers of all time in my mind. His days in Orlando with the Diesel were too sick. These Little Penny commercials bring back memories and are hilarious. Shoe heads, peep all the kicks too.

To Each His Own

He's On Fire!

As a child, I know alot of you must have remembered playing serious amounts of arcade style video games. One of my all time favourite games when I was a kid was NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime. Dopeness. I was just thinking back at it a couple days ago when I was playin the Super Nintendo, that some of the tracks on the games are ill haha.

Stony Stratford's Christmas Light's Switch On Day

A very busy day with lots of people flocking into the Parish Church for our annual Christmas Fayre which coincides every year with the day the town switches on the Christmas Lights.
This morning was bitterly cold but the crowds were not deterred from visiting the town and soon there were hordes of people flocking into church for teas/coffees and mince pies. In fact it was remarked by several people that there were more folk in church than there were in the High Street all through the morning.
Our Lady's image was not without many votive lights all day and the opportunity to meet so many people was as always a joy, except for one person who was extremely rude to one of our helpers.
As usual our stalwart volunteers did very well in making the day a great success. The Restoration Fund benefited by nearly £800 and the Organ Appeal raised almost £400. As well as our own stalls and refreshments we had the local Historical and Archaeological Society Bookstall, a stall for Kidney Research and, my personal favourite, a model railway exhibition. It was good to be able to encourage support of these other organisations too. There was live music all day with our very own Church Band playing this morning, our organist, Andrew Storer giving a recital over lunch and then a quartet of young ladies playing stringed instruments this afternoon and raising awareness of a local scheme to teach classical music playing to children in Ghana.
The town as usual was packed and many, many people worked very hard to make the day a great success. The High Street and the Market Square were closed to traffic and the Lantern Parade by children with their own creations was as marvellous as ever. Roasted Chestnuts, fairground rides, the Mummers, Morris Dancing, Live Music and much, much more all building up to the actual switching on of the lights at about 5:00pm. As I said in an earlier post "no one does Christmas Lights like Stony Stratford" and it's worth a visit between now and Twelfth Night to see them.
And when it was all over and the Parish Church had been returned to normal, the Advent colours had replaced the green and everything was clam and ready for Sunday Mass our Organist and I were able to say Vespers in wonderful peace. That for me is the best part of the whole day each year on this day. There is something quite remarkable about saying Vespers after all that activity in a church building which then resonates with peace and calm.
Tomorrow brings the start of a New Year and the children lighting the first candle on the Advent Wreath and the adults getting all embarrassed when I ask them which group of people the first candle represents. For the first eight years they forgot every year. Last year they had done their homework beforehand as I had intimated that rather than asking the whole of the gathered Faithful a question an individual might be asked... I wonder what will be the case tomorrow?

Something Foul.

God's son is back with another instant classic. Every time this man touches the mic, it's inevitable. Even though we're all waiting for the next "Stillmatic", Nas remains legit and continues to impress.

I've been bumping the latest NS album pretty hard lately. Here's a soulful track off of it called Testify.

Super Mario 3.

Kanye, at the American Movie Awards, in what appears to be, a raccoon tail. I'm not the biggest retro kid fan and it was hard enough seeing dudes walk around with bandanas around their necks claiming it was "swag". Rodents is the new hot look. I'm gonna bust out my Raccoon Tail hat and see how many digits I get.

The only man in my opinion who can pull off this look other than Kanye is Mario himself...

NEW TELE

this is my new tele, the GORGEOUSLY STUNNING Samsung LN40A750 which is 40 inches of pure bliss. It has basically everything you would need for a good videogame/movie setup...4 HDMI, 2 Component, 1 Composite, 1 Optical (audio), 1 VGA & 1 DVI port...now for the GOOD stuff, 50,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, insane amount of customizable features for the white balance, hue, black levels, etc., entertainment video settings like movie, game, or sports and a whole wack of other ones I'll barely use. Aesthetics wise it looks amazing, the floating glass around the screen like the Sony Bravias are known for, and a slight line of red under the glass which is pretty cool. Either way this is a premium tele which is sold as high as 2399$ or more, I got it for 1699$ (2 gnotes after taxes...fucking taxes) but it was well worth it...just look at this thing...it's BEAUTIFUL...anyway enough ranting. This is my new tele...if the bitches don't like it...they're fucking skanks! lol...I know you all want one now =P

Wednesday's wayback playback vol.1?

sooo this is pretty much to cover my ass for yesterday....I've been MAD busy with work so if I ever miss a tuesday, I'll be posting this "wayback playback" the wednesday immediately after if possible. ANYWAY this is one of my all time favourtie tunes PERIOD. I figured I posted a few hip-hop tracks already, so I might as well hit you with my other love which is reggae. take a listen.

Calverton Parish's growth....

Calverton PCC this evening. Short meeting, but we have agreed the beginning of the consultation over merging the parishes PCC's. A group is to be set up to draw up a Draft Scheme for the merger to repot back by next Autumn. Calverton PCC have elected two representatives and it is hoped that Stony Stratford PCC will do the same at its January Meeting.

With massive development taking place in Calverton Parish over the next five to ten years (forecast in population growth is from 150 souls to 16,500) and the major changes that will bring in terms of demands on clergy time I see a need to reduce time spent on administration and also a need to safeguard the interests of both parishes in what will be very changed circumstances with the relationship between the two parishes facing a radically new challenge.

Negotiations between myself, the Diocesan Education Officers and Local Authority Education Department regarding another Aided School are in need of progressing as part of this too.

Calverton Church has prepared well for the future development over the last few years by installing kitchen and toilet facilities and now having a car park for 60 cars. Negotiations will soon need to take place over the funding of a community use space at the Parish Church too. Initial discussions about funding brought a positive indication. There is a need to build on this.

Something to puzzle over....

Count every ' F ' in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE
RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC
STUDY COMBINED WITH THE
EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

(SEE BELOW)

HOW MANY ? WRONG, THERE ARE 6 -- no joke. READ IT AGAIN ! Really, go Back and Try to find the 6 F's before you scroll down. The reasoning behind is further down.

The brain cannot process 'OF'. Incredible or what? Go back and look again!! Anyone who counts all 6 'F's' on the first go is a genius.

"Grams,Grands,Gucci, I'm G'd up" - Cameron Giles

Despite posting daily picks, this is my shit A.T.M.

Fuck what ya heard, Cam'Ron's that dude. Stay waiting for that new G.O.D.

Daily Picks

This will always be my shit. J. Dilla R.I.P. Crazy how I used to think that was actually him in the video, it was actually his brother. Damn.

Of target setting and pits.... and artefacts

In school this morning for the annual round of target setting with the Headteacher and the School Improvement Partner (SIP - what we used to call Attached Advisor - not sure whether SIP is better than AA!!!!).

What emerged was the guess work of having to look two years hence when the nature of the cohort can so easily change in a two form entry school, where 2 or 3 talented and gifted children moving away can radically alter the projected results. However, I also learnt at last why children coming up from First/Infant Schools often seem assessed at a higher grade than they actually are and that is that the grading for Key Stages One and Two are different, for example one child might be assessed as level 3 at First School, but at Junior School on entry is actually at level 2 because the scales used have different values. Where this mucks up the target setting is that the model used to work out what a Junior School's targets should be uses the Infant School level as the basis for progression and would expect that a child assessed at Level 3 in Infant School should be at Level 5 at the end of Junior School. In reality the majority will be at Level 4.

Would you believe that we are paying people who devised this system, and that those who implement it all agree that there is a problem, but no one appears willing to sort it? Well, yes, I guess many of you would - but how many of you would wish to pay them?

So from one pit to others.... this time in the churchyard. The trenches being dug for the exterior lighting wiring have exposed two vaults. One was not so badly damaged and was remedied with a slab - the other is to be filled in with sand. Some photo's might be posted later for interested folk. Our Architect was present to advise and then came with me into church to meet our new Organist, Andrew Storer, who was kindly helping the electricians installing the lighting by marking a safe route through the organ works with a nylon line so that the electricians do not damage the organ.

As part of this he had been exploring the Organ Blower room (a room that is not easy to get in due to the organ works) and had found two very large boards dating from 1739 which were clearly at some point on the church walls and which describe the foundation and aims of a local charity which is still in existence. We are going to keep them out for display during the Christmas Fayre this Saturday when the town will be heaving with people for Light's Switch On Day - as is often said: "No one does lights like Stony Stratford."

I then spotted what looked like crumpled up brocade and out came a green, somewhat damaged altar frontal, the beautifully embroidered orphreys of which were intact. No superfrontal, but a piece worthy of being conserved. What I want to know is why this was treated in such a dreadful manner?

Reformation or Deformation...?

My son, who is reading history, tells me that his lecturer for the Tudor period states that a number of scholars are now questioning whether the "Reformation" should have that term used to describe it. The argument runs that "reform" implies that something good has happened and that it is questionable whether good came out of it or not.

I raised the term "Henrician Schism" with my son, but he pointed out that that only deals with the English experience and not with Scotland and Northern Europe, etc. Of course, it also only deals with what happened under Henry VIII.

My son also tells me that scholars are also questioning whether what many of us know as the "Counter Reformation" should be called such. The argument runs that it wasn't simply about countering the Protestants, but had many proactive rather than reactive elements.

So, what do we call the events of the 16th century?

It's a celebration bitches.

Just taking the time out to shout out my dude Parodi who's birthday was yesterday. Dudes, don't hate on him. Ladies, put my phone number down for one call and holla at him. I'm just fuckin wit ya, Peace.

now we say you've been BARACK ROLL'D BITCH haha =P

wayback playback

alright so I've been going on a bit of an 80's craze lately, so here are a few of the best songs of that time, although I wasn't born in that time (90s music is better anyway...) the 80s had some classic tunes, so here's a bit of a tribute to some of my favourites.

Afro Samurai: Cartoon Cocaine

I'm in no way, shape, or form, a big fan of any Japanese anime or cartoon shit since I was a "likkle yute". Dragonball Z was the shit tho and you can you know what my dragon balls if you think not. If you havn't watched Afro Samurai, you definitely need to peep it. Samuel L Jackson as a samurai just is ill no matter how you slice it. The whole season is on DVD right now and I definitely copped. The soundtrack of the series was done by RZA of Wu Tang. If you like Samurai swords, karate, and mainly violence/ action, check this show out.

Killa Bees on Attack!

I would KILL to have one of these sick varsity Wu Wear bombers right now. A very hype piece of clothing indeed to commemorate one of my favourite groups of all time and greatest hip hop group of all time.

My dude JMac has two of these bad boys in MINT condition.

G.O.O.D Music, and we do this

Common Sense, with a new ill track produced by none other than the legendary J Dilla. J Dilla is hip hop, you already know. This one is called I've been pimpin. Chi town stand up. Common is just one of those bright artists in a depleted roster of rappers.

Common just unleashed his new website as well, it's quite exceptional. Check it HERE

TERRORISM

"did you hear that!?" "he said fart!" lmfao! RC is the best !!!

I definitely would've shot him too

another jokes skit from RC with the six flags guy...geez I hated those commercials =|

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn

One of my favourite skits on RC lol I think that it being sideways makes it even more hilarious...on a side note I really couldn't find a version that had it right side up and with the original song, a lot of tools have made remixes and failed horribly...EPIC FAIL.

lmao...this little thing

hilarious intel commercial parody I saw a few days ago, WELL DONE whoever made this =P

That's gonna leave a mark.

There's something just irresistibly funny about stupid injuries. My dude had to be Ronaldinho with a cart wheel throw in and shit. All I have to say is, young man, you got knocked the f*** out. If that was my son, there would be a football brawl right there and then, word to my soccer hooligans out there.

Honorary Assistant Priest......

The Area Bishop has at last signed Fr Graham Sander's “Permission to Officiate” and this means that he will, now that he is also very much on the mend following his surgery, be able to take a more active part in the Parish. I am delighted to be able to report that I have appointed Fr Graham as Honorary Assistant Priest.

Bureaucracy abounds......

Bureaucracy under our present political masters continues to get worse. While I cannot divulge who or where this applies to. I was told today that an auditor took a volunteer, who had purchased some items for the organisation she helps, to task for using her own reward card at the checkout and not recompensing the organisation for the points awarded when claiming the amount back she had spent. The fact that the same person gives huge numbers of vouchers to the organisation from other promotions that enable them to obtain much needed equipment free over the course of the year for those they serve didn't enter said overbearing auditors head.

I am all for clear and well run accounts, but this is just barking mad, and smyptomatic of a country that has gone rules mad and seems bent on criminalising thousands of people for their views. Do we really want to be controlled by people who can be so petty-minded? Why have we sat back and allowed such a dire state of affairs to develop?

Just a Little Bit

New leak from Drizzy himself via October's Very Own. This one is called Little Bit (remix) and it has a unique sound and is off of his latest mixtape So Far Gone. It features a remix of Lykke Li's original track Little Bit. She's an artist out of Sweden with a dope style. Check it out yourself.

"The pressures on. Both hearts beat like a metronome, both in sync like a Justin song...feels so right, but it's just so wrong. I wonder what my world bout, when niggas that I know try and take my girl out, and her friend's say I ain't the one to go for. She just jealous cause you always get approached more. Oh Well, tell her fall back, tell her call back, tell her to get a man that ain't cheatin on her ass with a girl I know, ye, tell her all that."

Captain America #47 Cover

Marvel has released a preview of their February 2009 Solicitations, including Captain America #47. Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

CAPTAIN AMERICA #47

Written by ED BRUBAKER
Pencils & Cover by STEVE EPTING
The New Captain America in the hands of the enemy in China! His secret past as the Winter Soldier in danger of coming to light! And what are his old Invaders teammate the Sub-Mariner and the Black Widow doing while Bucky Barnes faces his darkest past? By the best-selling Eisner, Harvey and Eagle award-winning team of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting.
32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$2.99

A pretty straightforward cover with a symmetrical composition, but I'm fairly happy with it. I remember back during my Crossgen days I sort of got stuck in a rut doing several covers in a row with this same type of composition featuring a central figure until Butch Guice snapped me out of it. I'm certain it won't happen again here though, because I've already done the cover to issue #48, even though I can't show it to you yet.

Firming up....

I understand that at the Chichester Diocesan Synod today the Diocesan Bishop announced in response to an intemperate statement by the Chairman of the Society of Catholic Priests (an organisation that seems to support a number of errant interpretations of Christian Faith and Morals) and further heckling of him from the floor that the bishop will not appoint anyone to be Bishop of Horsham who will ordain women as when a suffragan or even Area Bishop acts sacramentally he acts in persona for the bishop himself. The Dean of the cathedral and like-minded liberals were, apparently, absolutely furious afterwards and had they not have tried to force his hand publicly would not have found out till the deed was done.

It would seem that the betrayal of traditionalists on July 7th at the General Synod is coming home to roost as the balance put in place by the Act of Synod is now unravelling. Forward in Faith declared at the time that actions have consequences, and so it would seem that we are seeing just one of those consequences. How long before a Diocesan Bishop or two who have hitherto attempted to ordain women to the priesthood decide that they can no longer do so?

IRON CLAW: The Legend Of CB4

Chris Bosh is oficially hilarious. If you havn't heard anything about him and his online comedically genius videos, he's challenging Baron Davis of the Los Angeles Clippers to a viral video showdown. Here's his first entry that had me rolling. Cabbie coming through with the cameo.

Please Welcome Will the Thrill and Boogaloo Shrimp...

Fresh Prince is that show. I remember watching this show religiously whenever it came on. Here's a little nostalgic look back at some of the funniest moments of the show. A collection of some of the dancing scenes.

Bonus!

An abuse of a place of Christian worship....

At that renowned Parish Church of all things truly liberal and inclusive, St James Piccadilly (OK not that truly!), I hear, via Damian Thompson's Blog, that there is to be "an alternative service of lessons and carols" this year, at which the following will be sung:

Once in royal David's city
Stood a big apartheid wall;
People entering and leaving
Had to pass a checkpoint hall.
Bethlehem was strangulated,
And her children segregated.

Though this city is a symbol
To the world of peace and love,
Concrete walls have closed around her,
Settlements expand above.
And apartheid Israel stands
All around on stolen lands.

While certain "open" type people may be thrilled at the prospect of such a militant display - it leaves me, and I have no doubt many others, appalled.

While I am not surprised at the liturgical depths to which some parishes will sink, I am amazed at the complete and utter abandonment of rigorous thinking which has descended into a display of such immaturity. This really is childish in the extreme. It is symptomatic of a simplistic worldview that seems to pervade some peoples' thinking.

Yes, of course there are deep and profound objections to the State of Israel's treatment of the Palestinian People, but I am not of the opinion that this sort of claptrap will further the cause of peace. Rather, it is more likely to further the cause of division and disorder, It panders to anti-Jewish sentiment, of which there seems to be an increasing degree amongst many who think themselves intellectually superior. Such people seem to fail to realise that there is a world of a difference between being intellectual and being intelligent.

Then there is the matter of the abuse of an ancient place of Christian worship to peddle crude polemic rather the worship of Almighty God. It has long been known that St James Piccadilly has been a place where unorthodox teaching takes place - no doubt popular with some radical types who love to rejoice in their teenage angst while still in their 50's and 60's, and who seem to think that rebellion always leads to freedom - an all to human condition which Christ our Lord came to heal. I well recall a former incumbent of mine who back in the 1980's visited the cafe at St James Piccadilly and who innocently asked for a white coffee and was told that he was being racist and that he should have asked for a "coffee with milk". If memory serves me correct his reply was "Don't be so stupid." I am not sure I would have been able to be so polite.

A church building is a house of prayer, a place of worship, a place where we encounter the Risen Lord in Word and Sacrament - it is not a place of protest. Neither is it a place where our own predilections and errant opinions are affirmed. Catholic Christians understand that in worship we join with the whole company of heaven in worshipping God. Do our Lord's Mother, the Apostles and the New Testament Saints of the line of David and Abraham really want to be subjected to this? Does the Lord, himself of the line of David, desire this form of worship? To see a beautiful carol which speaks richly of the Incarnation of the Lord parodied in this way does little to promote the Gospel and does no honour to Christ, and plays into the hands of the enemy.

The situation in the Holy Land is a cause for grave concern and it seems to me that the Church should be an agent of reconciliation rather than division. Surely, we should be promoting dialogue rather than confrontation? It should be our prayer that all Abraham's children come to recognise their common semitic heritage and work together for peace and harmony.

I'm not Denzel...

it's funny because Bobby Lee actually looks like him...=|

lmfao take that bush!

MADtv is hilarious hahaha!

you fight bad guys right?

here's the first few minutes of the movie, I'm just going on a little fanboy rant so I can tell you the prices of the movie...they'll be approx. these prices according to the MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price)
$27.96 on DVD
$39.95 on Blu-Ray (people need to stop spelling it BLUE-ray...that's NOT CORRECT...tools.)
and last but not least for those who want to take it on the go with their PSP will have to fork out $24.94 for the UMD.
all in all I'd say those prices are pretty good, considering how epic this movie looks...okay fanyboy rant is terminated.

pretty freaking sweet

I'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with one of Capcom's most successful survivor-horror series' RESIDENT EVIL, and if all the games and live-action films weren't enough, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is bringing to us a CGI true-to-it's-roots type of movie for RE. This movie will take place 7 years after the raccoon city events of RE2, so you know what that means right? Our good friend Leon S. Kennedy will be making a reappearance as well as Claire Redfield both of whom are from previous RE titles. I'm pretty stoked for this movie just because the games were sick, and the live-action movies weren't bad...anyway enough rambling, this awesome looking movie is slated for a December 30th, 2008 release.

TUESDAY'S TURNING BACK TIME

Alright folks so here's a segment I'm going to try and do weekly, an old school tune of any genre each tuesday. This week's is one of my favourite by imo one of the BEST emcees of all time Nas, and this one is called "the message" with one of the best lines to ever be in a song..."I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death". Alchemy

From the Alchemy website:

"Alchemy is an open drawing project aimed at exploring how we can sketch, draw, and create on computers in new ways. Alchemy isn’t software for creating finished artwork, but rather a sketching environment that focuses on the absolute initial stage of the creation process. Experimental in nature, Alchemy lets you brainstorm visually to explore an expanded range of ideas and possibilities in a serendipitous way."

You may have already heard of this program. I first discovered it a month or two ago but haven't had much time (or any time) to experiment with it. It's free to download and looks like it will be fun to explore. After opening it and figuring out the basic interface, I did these two quick sketches (with a little photoshop flourish here and there)-

Like I said, this was a month or two ago, and even though the nature of the program makes the sketching quick and spontaneous ( both of these took about five minutes each) these are the only two pieces I've done so far. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play around with the program some more soon. Download it here.

Rain didn't stop play....

I have more than once commented to some of the faithful here that rain seems to boost the worshipping numbers. Time was when rain was thought to lead to a reduction in numbers. However in the 10 years + that I have been in Stony Stratford and Calverton I have noticed that the numbers go up when it is raining. This morning there were 160 souls at Mass - it would have been nice to see the other 65 there too. However, many are away - has anyone noticed that the summer holiday season seems to be getting longer and longer?
So, good numbers this morning and this afternoon at the Parish War Memorial there were estimated to be over 200. For the first time in ten years it rained - and I mean rain! So much so that the Lion's Club have kindly agreed to fund the cost of new Service Cards. But to get that number turn out in such weather shows how important this day is to so many people today. As I intimated in Friday's post the number of young people was very high too. Thank J&M for the Clerical cloak - I was bone dry beneath it, even though the poor biretta took a soaking. Despite the downpour everyone joined in and the silence was very well observed thanks to Thames Valley Police who closed off the road for us. The Band played beautifully even though the poor things got soaked. All in all a very good Remembrance Sunday.

Friday's Rewind

Old school funky baby making, cool music that just makes you want to move you're feet. Call me old fashioned, then ask you're pops about these tunes that when they reminisce of the days when men would spit the real gentleman's game to ladies...just kick back and chill son.

A lack of time to enter a post on the blog since Tuesday, but then pastoral care of the flock and parish life takes precedence. Of course, there were meetings as well - but mercifully few of them this week.
During Tuesday I visited one of our flock in the CCU at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry. As I reported before he was knocked down in a road traffic accident. Please keep praying for him and his family. The rest of Tuesday was spent chained to the desk and I managed to get ahead of myself and produce the Mass Sheet for tomorrow.
Wednesday saw me at Bishop Andrew's Standing Committee at Dry Sandford, as well as delivering the Ordo to him having printed it on our Risograph. In the afternoon I was at a local Charity and we were able to give substantial grants to young people at College, University or on Training Courses and to the poor. I arrived home to find an email informing me that we had gained our final plannning consent for the change of use on the former Parish Hall - much rejoicing. In the evening I saw a couple about the Baptism of their child and then attended James' 60th birthday party. James is known to many, many people in the Church of England. He is quite mad about bishops and bloggers will wonder why! I was deputed to present a gift from the Parish Family and couldn't resist starting off by saying "Well, James, tonight I am not going to talk about Bishops" - not that I do very often.
Thursday morning and afternoon was spent taking the Sacrament to the sick and over lunch I managed to make arrangements to see the agents we will be using to sell our former hall on Friday morning. In the evening we had our Partners in Mission Group Meeting at which we planned more fully that which needed to be done to support our Advent Appeal which this year is for the Fistula Hospital through Ethiopiaid. Each year we give boxes out just before Advent and then we ask that our folk bring them back on the Feast of the Epiphany (6th January folks - not transferred to a Sunday through secular pressure!). After the Gospel we sing "We three kings" while the Images of the Magi are brought forward and placed in the Crib during the appropriate verses, then during the final verse the Faithful bring their Advent Boxes and lay them at the foot of the crib. All of our Carol Singing collections from around the streets of the parish and the collection from our Children's Liturgy on Christmas Eve afternoon are added to the total and we usually manage to send off over a £1000 each year.
Friday morning saw our agent arrive and a long conversation followed about the current financial climate and the problems of selling property at this time. Not a good time to sell, but it is an interesting building architecturally and we are hopeful that a good price can be achieved. He was quite scathing about the role of the press and media in fueling the current crisis. Then it was another day of important Pastoral Visits, which makes one realise that a greater perspective is needed by some of our so-called political commentators and opinion formers.
Tomorrow will be a day dealing with desk work and writing important missives to those who should be seeking our best interests over the sale of property. I shall also be writing Sunday's Homily before going to church to prepare for Sunday. Over the next three weeks I want to preach on the nature of The Church. My aim in doing this is not to preach Churchianity, but to explain what we mean by The Church and its place in the Lord’s plan for our salvation. In recent years certain misrepresentations have been allowed to grow and even been fostered by some misguided souls with our own part of The Church (as well as in others) and so it is important that we all understand a little more of what we mean by “The Church.” This coming Sunday I am considering our bodies as Temples of the Holy Spirit and the nature of the local Church and the issue of "the Eucharist makes the Church". Next week I want to look at what we mean when we say in the Nicene Creed each Sunday “We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church” and then in the final of the series on the Feast of Christ the King I want to consider the Church in relation to its Lord and Master and the issue of the Church’s obedience to God’s revelation in Christ.
Sunday will bring our Parish Masses at All Saints and St Mary and St Giles, and in the afternoon the Act of Remembrance at the Parish War Memorial in Horsefair Green. Each year this seems to attract more people especially the young to whom we give pride of place so that they can see everything.

Christmas Postage Stamps

I am posting this message to encourage as many people as possible to buy Christian themed Postage stamps this year. If we do not purchase them we will find that the secular agenda will be furthered.

The Royal Mail has announced its "Christmas" stamps for 2008 - pantomime figures of peculiar ugliness. The publicity material sent out to retailers like ourselves show only these stamps. However, by digging deeply into the Royal Mail website one can discover that the beautiful Madonna stamps produced last year will be available again this year, but are obviously not going to be promoted.

I write to urge you to insist on Christian stamps for a Christian festival and to refuse to accept the pantomime stamps. If you have problems obtaining them, send a complaint to Royal Mail.

Can't be my lover...

A big tune from the insanely talented John Legend and the original rude bwoy, Buju B. Can't be my lover, check it out. This was produced by Supa Dups of Black Chiney Sound Crew.

Is he "The Answer" for Detroit.

Yes, I'm sure you've all heard. The Answer aka Allen Iverson now returns to the East after being traded to Detroit in exchange for Chauncey Billups and Antonio Mcdyess. I think AI is still in top form and can obviously do some serious damage, but Chauncey had a chemistry and understanding with this team and he ran it smoothly. I'm excited to see what Billups will do for Denver tho and what he can do with Melo. The NBA season is looking pretty good right now. Kick back, open a brew and watch some games with the lady. Or better yet, get you're lazy ass up and go to a game ya dig?

Bishop David Hope on what is needed for Traditionalists

In a Homily at St Mary's, Horden the former Archbishop of York , The Rt Rev'd David Hope, spoke for all traditionalists in the Church of England when he said:
"let me just say that I don’t want any ‘protection’ clauses from the Synod or anyone else, thank you very much – frankly I find that demeaning and patronising in the extreme – to enable me to continue as a loyal and faithful member of the church of my birth and in which I have been privileged to minister.
What I want is a ready and generous acceptance and celebration of all that which I and so many others hold dear and which we have been taught and learned in this church which claims to be part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church down the ages and throughout the world – and in the current situation, that can only be secured by provisions which are clear and unequivocal in their intention both to provide the distancing which I believe to be necessary, as well as being able still to hold us all together in those bonds of communion and love and unity which are the gift of the Spirit – that communion, love and unity which continues to be an imperative for all Christians."
Lets us hope that these wise words will be both listened to and acted upon.
