I have more than once commented to some of the faithful here that rain seems to boost the worshipping numbers. Time was when rain was thought to lead to a reduction in numbers. However in the 10 years + that I have been in Stony Stratford and Calverton I have noticed that the numbers go up when it is raining. This morning there were 160 souls at Mass - it would have been nice to see the other 65 there too. However, many are away - has anyone noticed that the summer holiday season seems to be getting longer and longer?
So, good numbers this morning and this afternoon at the Parish War Memorial there were estimated to be over 200. For the first time in ten years it rained - and I mean rain! So much so that the Lion's Club have kindly agreed to fund the cost of new Service Cards. But to get that number turn out in such weather shows how important this day is to so many people today. As I intimated in Friday's post the number of young people was very high too. Thank J&M for the Clerical cloak - I was bone dry beneath it, even though the poor biretta took a soaking. Despite the downpour everyone joined in and the silence was very well observed thanks to Thames Valley Police who closed off the road for us. The Band played beautifully even though the poor things got soaked. All in all a very good Remembrance Sunday.
