I understand that at the Chichester Diocesan Synod today the Diocesan Bishop announced in response to an intemperate statement by the Chairman of the Society of Catholic Priests (an organisation that seems to support a number of errant interpretations of Christian Faith and Morals) and further heckling of him from the floor that the bishop will not appoint anyone to be Bishop of Horsham who will ordain women as when a suffragan or even Area Bishop acts sacramentally he acts in persona for the bishop himself. The Dean of the cathedral and like-minded liberals were, apparently, absolutely furious afterwards and had they not have tried to force his hand publicly would not have found out till the deed was done.
It would seem that the betrayal of traditionalists on July 7th at the General Synod is coming home to roost as the balance put in place by the Act of Synod is now unravelling. Forward in Faith declared at the time that actions have consequences, and so it would seem that we are seeing just one of those consequences. How long before a Diocesan Bishop or two who have hitherto attempted to ordain women to the priesthood decide that they can no longer do so?
