All Saints, Calverton...

Here in this parish Manning, Newman and Pusey met with the Rector of Calverton and the Tracts for the Times were discussed and some plans were drawn up. The Tracts were then written elsewhere. Dr Pusey preached and celebrated Mass at the altar here. This beautiful church was significantly influenced in its restoration by the Tractarian Movement. It is a gem of a church where every week the regular worshipper can see something not spotted before.

This Parish Church's original dedication was "All Hallows" and when seated inside you are surrounded by images of saints in stained glass and overshadowed by angels. Apostles adorn the pulpit. The implements and items associated with the crucifixion adorn the chancel arch. The Chancel and Sanctuary are the interiors crowning feature and in the Mass (versus orientem) you really do feel as if you are being drawn into an encounter with the Risen, Ascended and Glorified Lord and being prepared for eternity in heaven.

I will be writing more about our church interiors over the next month or so. All Saints has many more gems for you to see. And at Stony Stratford there will be, in January, a pictorial record of the Restoration / Reordering works.
