Tomorrow sees the Observance of the Epiphany of the Lord (transferred from the correct date of 6th January due to works in the Parish Church), except of course in those places (including, sadly, many in the CofE) that have abandoned the Lectionary and Christian Calendar.
Following the Gospel the images of the Magi are brought forward during the appropriate verses as we sing the Carol "We three Kings", incense being used during the relevant verse. During the last verse the faithful bring forward their "Advent Appeal Boxes" and lay them at the foot of the Crib.
I love Epiphany with its rich hymnody and its triple theme. On this day, with the theme of "manifestation", the shewing at Mass is particularly meaningful. Not for us though the banal, pedestrian translation: "This is the Lamb ...", no here it will be the much more traditional and richer "Behold him, behold the Lamb of God..."
