This morning saw the electricians arrive to complete the exterior lighting scheme and Messrs Rattee & Kett arrive to begin the Reordering/Restoration of the Parish Church in Stony Stratford. Hopefully there will be some photo's uploaded tomorrow of work in progress.
The Font has been removed from its position in the south aisle near to the altar in preparation for its repositioning in a traditional position at the west end of the centre aisle. Not only was it a 1960's fashion to have fonts near altars, but it seems it was also a fashion to use cement to bed it onto the York stone paving beneath so as the cement is basically irremovable, the slabs will need to be replaced,. However, as the York paving beneath the new position will be replaced with the beautiful floor in a variety of stones we can reuse those -thus saving the cost of new ones.
Of course cement is not allowed anymore - just another example of a 1960's practice being a fad that not only goes out of fashion but is now known to often be a poor material to use in heritage sites.
