This morning I received, unsolicited (no pun intended), the local advertising flyer through the door.
On the front page is an appalling advertisement (virtually full page) with the headline:
"Messy marriage?
Rotten relationship?
It's a new year make it a new start!"
Where is the Government's apparent policy of conciliation when such blatant attempts to profit from the misery of others is allowed. Even more worrying is the encouragement such statements give to people to seek a divorce as the first option when, with help and support, they could probably work their problems through.
There really does seem to be a trend now for these types of companies to seek to encourage people to resort to law as the first option. There are also those companies who seek to profit from other's accidents; "Where there's blame there's a claim" was the strapline for those types.
Dickens in Bleak House wrote of similar trends in Victorian times over disputes as to inheritance, but surely Jarndice versus Jarndice is relatively simple compared to the outright desire to profit from another's potential misery that this lot are involved in - I say "potential" for it may not even exist - but you can be sure that they want it to.
