Newsletter Article (Vol. 1, Issue 2): Member Spotlight: Edwin Cabrera

Written by: Raul Salinas

SHPE-NYC had the opportunity to interview a fellow SHPE member and a very talented bassoonist, Edwin Cabrera. Edwin, a technical engineer with over 20 years of experience at Northrop Grumman decided to follow his passion of music and earned two classical music degrees. What a combination Engineer/Bassoonist!

Mentors have had a very important impact in Edwin‘s life. One of his mentors helped him develop and advance his technical talents, while another provided him insight and guidance in management. They both helped show he could apply his musical talent and experience, to create a professional harmony with the passionate engineers he now manages. Edwin recommends the following book for professionals entering the workforce: Thomas L. Friedman's book The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century.

When asked what he loves about SHPE, he says "the thrill to unite people and passions, a perfect match with our mission to promote professional development, leadership and community outreach within the NYC area". If you want to see Edwin Cabrera perform live, visit www.bam.org for more information.
